What does a

 

ate patient gain me?

 

Treatment that is not subsidised by the government means less restrictions! Because you are paying for all of the treatment you can elect to have treatments that you feel would benefit you. For example Scale and Polishes on the NHS are only available to patients with gum disease or specific build up (calculus) and the frequency is restricted. Privately you could see the hygienist as often as you wanted. The same applies for other treatments, provided your dentist agrees that the treatment is suitable.

Private patients do pay a little more for their treatment than NHS patients for this freedom, because the treatment is not subsidised. Private patients need to be aware that a long course of treatment or treatment involving lab produced work could be expensive.

Patients registered with the practice on the NHS can still elect to have specific treatments provided privately.
